Catalyst expertise and technology has provided innovative solutions and benefits to many radio network users with different radio communications problems. Read more about how Catalyst can apply our expertise to your needs.

Cost-Effective Wide Area Dispatch & Interoperability

No Dedicated Phone Lines for Radio Connectivity: Voice messages to and from field radio users flow over the existing wide area network using Internet Protocol (IP). The dedicated telephone lines and microwave radio systems that have traditionally been used to route this voice traffic can be very expensive. Catalyst's products can save the agency significant expense by using the computer network to route this traffic.

No Proprietary Switch for Routing Radio Voice Traffic: Some radio systems use expensive switches to route radio traffic between different geographic regions. Catalyst's products let the IP network switch the voice traffic, eliminating the need for a proprietary switch calls and saving the agency the cost of procuring and maintaining that switch.

Scalable Multipoint to Multipoint Routing: IP Networks provide cost-effective routing between multiple radio sites and multiple dispatch locations. Additional radio sites and dispatch positions can be added without replacing existing hardware.

Share One Radio Among Multiple PC Users: Up to 25 Remote PCs can simultaneously monitor the traffic from a single fixed radio. Up to 64 users may be allowed to use each Radio Gateway, up to 25 at a time. Any of the Remote PCs can transmit on that radio. This configuration saves the cost of multiple radios, the cost of installing multiple radios, and the cost of licensing multiple radios. In addition, installation and relocation costs are minimized at the operations centers since only a wide area network connection is required for each PC.

Use the Same PC for Other Applications: The Remote PC can also be used for other tasks like word processing, email, and other information retrieval functions. Minimize the application and use the full size of the PC screen for other applications while listening to radio traffic.

Free Up Precious Work Space: With the capability for a single Remote PC to communicate with up to twelve different regions, valuable desk space is saved relative to other solutions.

Catalyst Introduced Console, Presented Technical Track at IWCE

Thursday, February 28

Catalyst once again introduced a ground-breaking innovation at IWCE. Robin Grier, the President of Catalyst, was joined by Major Steven Williams of the Florida Highway Patrol to discuss “Disaster Recovery, Pushing the Envelope with Wireless IP.”

The Florida Highway Patrol has created a Mobile Command Vehicle that provides the full functionality of a primary dispatch center with three independent methods of network connectivity to other locations – a first. FHP officers can drive the vehicle to any location – inside or outside the state -- and begin dispatching in minutes if a hurricane, fire, or other disaster disrupts or even completely eliminates the local facility. Discover how the Florida Highway Patrol provides a flexible response to evolving communications needs across the state, allowing first responders to link any of 500 talk groups and conventional channels for federal, state, and local agencies in virtually any combination, instantly. Management issues including operational and contingency plans will be discussed.
